Come as you are. was commissioned for the GVSU New Music Initiative. Come as you are. is a line often said by religious institutions in America, but many don't really mean that. I got the idea for the piece after communicating with a couple of my students who were eagle scouts why I never attained the eagle ranking. At the time, queer people were not allowed to be scouts, as it went against the scout oath according to the organization. Come as you are. is an earnest offering, an attempt to communicate that people are enough where they are.
