Program Notes
Through My Child Eyes is a piece about reconnecting with kid me. The title was taken from a book entitled Educated by Tara Westover in which she describes something horrific as normal to her child eyes. Recently, I've been trying to get in touch with my inner child through reading difficult books on parents with untreated borderline personality disorder. In order for me to understand me, it has been invaluable to reflect on my relationship with my mom, whom I haven't talked to in many years. Through My Child Eyes seeks to demonstrate the natural need a child has for their caretaker, the normal that is anything but, the recognition of the tenuousness of unconditional love, and the breakaway to self-actualization.
