Generally Pathetic refers to a quote by the late author David Foster Wallace when describing the affect of everyday people. David Foster Wallace used this descriptor somewhat lovingly in contrast to his critiques of postmodern culture/media that he felt emphasized an apathy and ambivalence that was not reflective of the human experience.
